20th Anniversary of the Computer Science major

Twenty years ago, a computer science major was established at Opole University. To mark the occasion, on Friday, April 22, 2022, the Institute of Computer Science and the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science organized an anniversary celebration attended by distinguished guests.

The opening ceremony took place at 11 am in the auditorium of the Student Cultural Center. It began with a performance by the Drama per Musica academic choir under the direction of Elżbieta Trylnik, Ph.D. The arriving guests were welcomed by Dr. Piotr Urbaniec, dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science.

This was followed by a speech by the winner of the prestigious Professor Opoliensis award in the field of science and education, Wieslaw Szwast, Ph.D, Prof. UO, who talked about the beginnings of the computer science major.

Later in the ceremony, graduates of the faculty and staff of the Institute of Computer Science and WMFiI spoke. One of the speakers was Professor Ian Pratt Hartmann, a native of Manchester, a prominent specialist in computer sciences who has been associated with Opole and the University of Opole for years. Those gathered could listen to his commemorative lecture entitled. “Jerzy Slupecki and the Rule of Rejection.”

The Student Cultural Center also featured an exhibition prepared by the Department of Scientific Information and Knowledge Base with the cooperation of Jack Waldmajer, Ph.D.

The 20th anniversary of the computer science major was an important event at Opole University, as the major is very popular and appreciated by students.
